Patient Fees

Public Patient Fees

Whilst our surgeons all see hernia patients at the Grampians Health Ballarat surgical clinics, we note that the waiting list for appointments and hernia surgery is substantial in the public system. Additionally, patients seen there are unable to choose their surgeon or the date of their surgery.

The Ballarat Hernia Clinic welcomes uninsured patients who wish to self-fund their surgery in a private hospital.  Our friendly and efficient practice staff can assist in helping you understand what the costs may be, and regularly provide estimates for uninsured patients who chose to proceed with surgery in the private hospital with Dr Wong or Dr Ross.  There are several parts to the overall cost: the Private Hospital fee which is usually the greatest, then there are fees for the surgeon, the anaesthetist and the surgical assistant.  Our surgeon’s fees are very fair and reasonable, especially for the level of expertise and care that is provided.  A partial claim is able to be made through Medicare.

For suitable patients with more straightforward hernias, surgery can sometimes be arranged at our peripheral public hospitals in Maryborough or Stawell.

Private Patients Fees

For insured patients, our surgeon fees are well below what is recommended by the Australian Medical Association (AMA) and surgery can usually be performed within a month at St John of God Hospital Ballarat or at the Ballarat Day Procedure Centre.
